Job Description
Legal/forensic transcription and translation company seeks bilingual professionals to transcribe and translate bilingual audio into English (US).
The audio participants primarily speak Mexican or Central American Spanish and use a lot of slang and vulgar language. Transcribers must be able to distinguish different speakers and accurately hear what is being said, even with background noise and overlapping conversations. You will have the opportunity to work 100% from home under a freelance scheme and with fixed work schedules (full time).
You will be in direct contact with our Project Manager (located in the CST time zone) to receive and deliver assignments on an ongoing basis.
The material to be transcribed includes recordings related to criminal cases, such as body camera videos, calls from jails, interviews, etc. The audio is often low quality, with overlapping speakers, sensitive content, regional slang, and vulgar language. Speakers primarily use Spanish from Mexico, Central America, and the Hispanic community in the Los Angeles region, which must be translated into American English.
Requirements:
- Min. 4 years of experience in legal/forensic translation and/or transcription.
- Very advanced Spanish and English skills (bilingual, C2).
- Stellar proofreading and grammar skills (even correct punctuation is important).
- Familiarity with English and Spanish slang.
- High detail orientation.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Great listening skills.
- Research skills to identify and define unknown terms.
- Access to Microsoft Word.
- Ability to consistently meet established deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively via email.
Working conditions:
- Salary: 1,500-2,000 USD gross per month, depending on productivity. Candidates with a "top" profile and high performance can earn up to 3,000 USD gross per month. The more jobs that are delivered on time and with the required quality, the higher the income.
- Depending on skill level and performance, a promotion to full-time reviewer, with a higher salary, may be considered after approx. 9 months of work.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday half day from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (CDMX local time). For candidates with a "top" profile and good performance, exceptions to the schedule may be considered.
- Trial period: 1 month
