Job Description
A professional proofreader is sought to ensure the quality, consistency and accuracy of British English documents and content, ensuring they comply with established style guides, linguistic conventions and editorial standards. The role involves overseeing the clarity, consistency and accuracy of content, working in coordination with the design and production teams when necessary.
Responsibilities:
Edit content to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
Ensure consistency, accuracy and integrity in all documents.
Check continuity of terminology, tone and factual references.
Flag unclear, inconsistent, or potentially incorrect content for review.
Follow provided style guides and client-specific checklists.
Support the use or light refinement of project style sheets when necessary.
Notify design or production partners of editorial deviations that may impact designs or compliance.
Ensure content aligns with British English spelling, usage and conventions.
Identify and correct inconsistencies between UK English and other variants.
Ensure that the level and tone of language are appropriate for the intended audience and medium.
Improve clarity and readability, while preserving the original meaning and structure.
Reduce unnecessary jargon or overly complex phrases.
Adjust the flow of sentences and paragraphs when necessary for comprehension.
Maintain a consistent voice, tone, and level of formality within defined guidelines.
Flag potential copyright or attribution concerns.
Requirements:
Experience as a professional proofreader, preferably in corporate, learning, editorial or digital content environments.
Native-level fluency in British English, with localization knowledge.
Attention to details and editorial judgment.
Ability to work independently with clear instructions and a defined scope.
Comfort collaborating asynchronously with international content and production teams.
Reliability in managing short and ad hoc tasks.

Salary to receive
$30 - $35 / hour
