Job Description

About Vivid
Vivid builds modern financial reporting, budgeting and analysis software for finance and operations teams that rely on Excel but need stronger data foundations, governance, and performance than legacy reporting tools can provide. Our platform connects Excel—where finance teams already live—to governed, scalable, financial and operational data warehouse, without the fragility of legacy tools.

Our work sits at the intersection of Excel, SQL Server, secure data access, and cloud-orchestrated services. We focus on pragmatic architecture that delivers value quickly, scales sensibly, and remains understandable to both technical and business stakeholders.

The Role

We’re looking for a senior full-stack developer with architecture experience who can both deliver production code and orchestrate the technical work across a small team.

This is not a “pure architect” role and not a narrow implementation role. You’ll be hands-on while also helping break problems into use cases, define technical approaches, and guide other developers toward clean, maintainable solutions.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Delivery (Hands-On Development)
•\ Build and maintain an Excel Web Add-in used by finance teams in Excel Online and desktop
•\ Develop cloud APIs that coordinate report execution, parameters, and results
•\ Build and evolve a secure on-prem connector service that accesses customer SQL Server environments or connect to Azure-based cloud infrastructure.
•\ Design and tune SQL queries and schemas for reporting and analytics use cases
•\ Ensure reliability, performance, and security across the full system
Architecture & Technical Leadership
•\ Translate business and reporting needs into clear technical use cases
•\ Define system boundaries, responsibilities, and data flows
•\ Help decompose larger initiatives into well-scoped work items
•\ Review designs and implementations from other developers
•\ Establish pragmatic standards for performance, security, and maintainability
•\ Act as a technical partner to product and business stakeholders
________________________________________
Core Technical Skill Areas

Excel & Office Add-ins (Critical)
•\ Excel Web Add-ins using the Office Add-ins platform
•\ Office.js Excel APIs:

•\ Add-in manifests and deployment via Microsoft 365 Admin Center
•\ Authentication and SSO patterns within Excel add-ins (Entra ID)
________________________________________
Backend & Orchestration Services
•\ Designing and building REST APIs
•\ Authentication and authorization:
o\ OAuth 2.0 / JWT
o\ Microsoft Entra ID
•\ Async and background job processing:

Preferred stacks
•\ .NET / ASP.NET Core (strong preference)
•\ Node.js / TypeScript acceptable if experience is deep
________________________________________
On-Prem Connector & Secure Data Access
•\ Windows Service or Worker Service development

•\ SQL Server connectivity using Microsoft.Data.SqlClient
•\ Outbound-only connectivity patterns:
o\ SignalR / WebSockets
o\ Polling fallback
•\ Reliability patterns:
o\ Auto-reconnect
o\ Timeouts and retries
o\ Running as a service account
•\ Deployment via installer or scripted setup
________________________________________
SQL Server & Reporting Architecture
