About the role:
We are looking for an Industrial Designer to join a Design & Development team building lighting products and home-improvement accessories. Reporting to the Director of Design, you will own the design of new products end-to-end — from concept and mechanics through to manufacturing documentation — working mainly with metal, glass, and plastic.
Why this role is worth your time:
• 100% remote from anywhere in Latin America
• Freelance engagement with an established international (Canadian) client
• Direct line to the Director of Design within a multidisciplinary Design & Development team
• End-to-end ownership of your design work, from concept to manufacturing-ready documentation
• Paid time off included (vacation and personal days) — uncommon for a freelance engagement
What you'll do:
• Design new products within a multidisciplinary team
• Produce clear manufacturing drawings and visual representations of new concepts
• Own all design deliverables across product development (part numbering, 2D/3D drawings, photo documentation, instruction manuals, inspection reports)
• Collaborate closely with the head-office design, engineering, and marketing teams
Requirements:
• Advanced English written and spoken (C1 or higher)
• Diploma or degree in Industrial Design
• Minimum 2 years in a similar role
• Design portfolio (to be submitted with the CV)
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (2D/3D CAD)
• Proficiency in Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator)
• Familiar with KeyShot or equivalent 3D rendering software
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, with a solid grasp of design for manufacturing (DFM) and value engineering
• Hands-on experience with models and prototypes, plus strong mechanical aptitude
Nice to have:
• Advanced French
• Knowledge of lighting products
• Eye for detail, team player, adaptable
Working conditions
• Contract: Freelance - independent contractor
• Compensation: negotiable (Mexican candidates may choose to be paid in MXN)
• Schedule: Full-time, with working hours overlapping Montreal business hours, Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. EDT, for collaboration with the head-office team
• Start date: As soon as possible
• Time off offered: 10 vacation days + 4 personal days + statutory holidays
