Job Description
We are looking for a profile specialized in administration and optimization of PostgreSQL databases in cloud environments, with experience in operating Amazon Web Services (AWS) managed services. The position is focused on ensuring the performance, security and stability of data systems, collaborating with development teams and participating in improvement and automation processes.
Responsibilities:
Manage, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL databases running on Amazon RDS and Aurora.
Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backup validation, replication checks, patches, and upgrades.
Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL and database objects, maintain PL/pgSQL routines, and contribute to data modeling initiatives to improve performance.
Configure and tune database performance metrics, logs, and alerts using AWS CloudWatch, pgstat statements, and other tools.
Identify and improve slow-running queries.
Implement and manage access control, auditing and security policies in accordance with organizational standards.
Create and maintain database documentation and deployment scripts.
Contribute to and follow best practices for schema changes, migrations, and versioning of database objects (GitHub experience a plus).
Contribute to DevOps processes, including database CI/CD and schema deployment automation.
Requirements:
Experience with PostgreSQL in production environments.
Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, including provisioning, parameter groups, backups, and failover.
Hands-on experience integrating PostgreSQL with other AWS services (e.g. Lambda and S3).
Hands-on experience writing and debugging SQL queries, developing and optimizing PL/pgSQL routines, managing views and materialized views, and implementing and maintaining partitions.
Experience with performance tuning, query planning, and index optimization.
Understanding of database design, normalization and data integrity constraints.
Experience collaborating with developers to understand application logic and improve data layer performance.
Knowledge of CI/CD practices for database development (e.g. GitHub Actions).
Collaboration and communication, with experience explaining database concepts to both developers and non-technical stakeholders.
