Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.Job DescriptionThe Photographer (Regional – South Florida) serves as a professional photographer, limited videographer, and image archivist for the UF/IFAS Communications strategic digital content team. This role is responsible for producing high-quality visual content that supports teaching, research, Extension, and public engagement initiatives across the state.Using advanced photography and digital media techniques, the Photographer creates compelling visual stories that highlight UF/IFAS programs, faculty, and impact. This position also contributes to social media outreach and maintains a robust, searchable image archive for organizational use.The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Communications team (UF/IFAS Communications) amplifies the reach of scientific knowledge with words, technology, art, and video to be more accessible to an array of audiences, wherever they are. We focus on building awareness of UF/IFAS experts and expertise. We strive to showcase how UF/IFAS embodies the teaching, research, and service elements of the UF mission in its daily work and direct interaction with key audiences – students, stakeholders, and residents.Photography & Visual Content CreationCapture high-resolution images for editorial, promotional, and public-facing use across print and digital platformsPlan and execute photo assignments independently or collaborativelyDetermine composition, lighting, and camera settings to achieve desired visual outcomesProduce occasional high-quality video content to support storytelling effortsEdit RAW images using Adobe Creative Suite and related softwareCollaborate with faculty, staff, and communications teams to plan and execute assignmentsEnsure visual content aligns with UF/IFAS branding and storytelling goalsImage Archive & Asset ManagementMaintain and organize a large-scale digital archive of imagesApply metadata, manage file storage systems, and ensure long-term accessibilityUpload and manage image galleries in internal databasesRetrieve and distribute visual assets upon requestPerform routine equipment maintenance and studio organizationContent Coordination & CollaborationParticipate in content planning meetings with the strategic digital content teamCollaborate with UF/IFAS Communications and University communications partnersIdentify and recommend visual content opportunities aligned with social and digital trendsWork EnvironmentFrequent travel (approximately 60%) throughout South FloridaOccasional evening and weekend work required for eventsAbility to work in outdoor environments, including heat and humidityLocationThis is an off-campus/remote position based in South Florida due to the need for frequent travel throughout South Florida.The preferred candidate's residence will be located in the central portion of South Florida, for example, in Hendry, Collier, Glades, Lee, or other centrally located South Florida county.Expected Salary$22.12 per hour; commensurate with experience and skillsRequired QualificationsA high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience.
