About the role:
This position reports to the Senior Manager Corporate Accounting and is responsible for assisting with the accounting for the company's pension, retiree healthcare, traumatic workers' compensation, black lung and long-term disability liabilities (collectively, "past mining obligations" or "PMO") as well as share-based compensation (e.g., performance units, stock options, restricted stock awards, etc.). This position is also responsible for various tasks attributed to month end close process such as preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned areas.
Duties will include:
Prepare journal entries for month end and/or year-end close.
Prepare monthly and/or quarterly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts utilizing Blackline accounting software.
Assist in the preparation of 10-Q and 10-K footnotes related to PMO liabilities and share-based compensation.
Prepare annual budget analyses for PMO liabilities including entry of data into budget templates.
Analyze and review annual census for pension and retiree healthcare obligations and provide results to external auditors, internal auditors and actuaries.
Assist in the process of assigning expenditure authority levels in accordance with Delegation of Commitment and Expenditure Authority corporate policy including review and revision of levels and policy as a result of organizational or operational changes that occur.
Prepare other ad hoc requests as related to PMO, share-based compensation and other topics, as applicable.
Assist with the audits of the company's employee benefit plans.
Assist Corporate Accounting department with the monthly reporting process, including management package schedules for assigned areas.
Assist Corporate Accounting department with other month end and/or year-end close responsibilities based on availability.

This position is a full-time role, working from our corporate headquarters in St Louis, MO. Peabody offers flexible work policies, including hybrid office / home working arrangements. Target salary range for this role is $83,000 to $103,000.
About you:
Qualifications:
Degree in accounting or finance
Master's degree preferred
CPA certification with professional training with public accounting firm preferred
Proficiency with SAP system
Proficiency with Blackline accounting software
Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience, or 3+ years of experience in a large international public accounting firm
SEC or similar public reporting experience, and experience with SOX 404 compliance
Familiarity with the accounting for actuarially-determined liabilities
Familiarity with the accounting for share-based compensation
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication, writing, managerial, organizational, and people skills.
Proven initiator, innovator and influencer who can drive change, improve processes, and provide sound solutions to complex and routine business issues
Prior experience in a global, complex environment where priorities change regularly
Unquestioned integrity and moral character
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment
Must be able to use a computer
Must have the ability to communicate effectively
