Your impact
The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic change, transforming the utility landscape to improve safety, reliability and sustainability. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Transmission and Distribution (T&D) operations in North America and is seeking a Senior Writer in its Power and Energy Group to address the complexities of decarbonization and modernizing utilities to deliver a cleaner, safer energy future.
As a Senior Editor, you will work closely with our regional and global Transmission and Distribution (T&D) delivery teams to support our utility clients/developers and operations teams as we expand our energy transition portfolio.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Develop and maintain overhead transmission line drawings using AutoCAD, including:
Plans and profile sheets
Detection of structures and distribution drawings.
Alignment sheets and route maps.
Foundation plans, access road and right of way.
Structure and assembly details.
Accurately interpret and apply engineering redlines, sketches, calculations, and design criteria.
Ensure drawings meet client standards, utility specifications, and internal CAD guidelines.
Support the preparation of permit plans, crossing exhibits and as-built documentation.
Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency.
Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to resolve drafting and design issues.
Maintain organized drawing files, layer standards, and document control practices.
Assist with quality control reviews of drawings prepared by other team members.
Participate in field visits or walks as necessary to support design development.
Mentor and guide young writers and provide technical writing support to all teams #LI-CC1 #epjobs #naepjobs
This position can be performed in any of our Jacobs offices nationwide.
This is what you will need
Associate's degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in drafting, design technology, or engineering technology.
Minimum 4 years of experience in drafting overhead transmission line projects.
Advanced AutoCAD proficiency (required)
Strong knowledge of overhead transmission line drafting practices.
Experience working with public services or consulting in engineering environments.
Familiarity with industry standards such as NESC and utility design requirements.
Experience supporting design deliverables such as:
Strong organization, communication and technical documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Team-oriented professional with strong interpersonal skills.
Additional notes
Previous experience mentoring junior editorial staff is highly desirable.
Familiarity with the client's document management systems or CAD standards is an advantage.

The base salary range for this position is $92,600.00 to $121,575.00; although you will be paid per hour based on the hours worked. Within this range, an individual's salary is determined by the workplace and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
