Job Description

Niuro connects top LATAM technology talent with international companies. Our mission is to become a strong bridge between highly skilled engineers in Latin America and companies building complex, production-grade technology products abroad. For this role, the selected professional will work with a US-based company in the online tax filing industry. The client operates in a regulated environment where reliability, data accuracy, security, and operational continuity are critical.
This position is ideal for a senior technical leader who can understand the full picture of a complex production environment, identify architectural risks, and help transform legacy systems into a more scalable, AI-enabled technology foundation. This is a Senior Principal Architect role for a technical leader who drives transformation, not just plans it. You will own two parallel initiatives: re-platforming a complex legacy stack and architecting the foundation for a new AI-driven product suite.

Define the target-state architecture for legacy modernization and new AI-powered systems, ensuring buildability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Audit current systems, production processes, AWS architecture, and data pipelines to identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and points of failure.
Design phased migration roadmaps that minimize business disruption while improving system reliability and delivery speed.
Design unified cross-system architectures spanning application, integration, cloud infrastructure, analytics, and data layers.
Evaluate how AI and LLM-based tools can improve existing workflows, particularly around analytics, database slicing, operational decision-making, and technical execution speed.
Translate executive-level business and analytics needs into feasible technical solutions with the engineering team.
Partner with executive leadership to make strategic trade-offs between technical idealism, business priorities, and delivery timelines.
Provide hands-on technical mentorship and architectural oversight during implementation.
Support distributed engineering teams by creating clarity around priorities, risks, KPIs, and execution plans.

8+ years of experience in software architecture, backend engineering, platform engineering, or engineering leadership.
Proven track record delivering complex systems from architecture through production.
Experience re-platforming or modernizing legacy technology stacks at scale.
Strong understanding of cloud architecture, preferably AWS, including reliability, scalability, security, and failure-point analysis.
Deep expertise in data modeling, distributed systems design, cross-system integration, and production data pipelines.
Experience working with analytics platforms, database-driven workflows, or systems where business questions need to be translated into technical/data solutions.
Practical understanding of AI-enabled systems and LLMs, especially how they can be applied to improve workflows, analytics, infrastructure, or engineering productivity.
Ability to communicate effectively with both executive stakeholders and technical teams.
Experience leading or mentoring distributed engineering teams, preferably within LATAM time zones.
C1 English level or higher.

MLOps experience for production AI/LLM systems.
Cloud platform experience, preferably AWS; GCP or Azure also valued.
Event-driven architecture and asynchronous workflow design.
Microservices architecture in complex or legacy modernization environments.
Experience applying AI/LLMs to analytics, data workflows, or operational decision-making.
Background in regulated industries such as tax, fintech, accounting, insurance, legaltech, or healthcare.

At Niuro, we value clear communication, ownership, technical excellence, and long-term relationships with both candidates and clients. We work with international companies that expect autonomy, accountability, and strong collaboration across time zones.
For this role, the working environment will require someone comfortable with ambiguity, complex systems, and executive visibility. The right person should be proactive, structured, and able to create alignment between business goals and engineering execution.
