Job Description:
Summary
This position helps to advance the Town of Chapel Hill's Community Arts & Culture Division mission to inspire creativity and celebrate community for a better Chapel Hill. This position assists the Public Arts Coordinator with coordinating art exhibits; processing artist applications; coordinating public art projects; and repairing and maintaining Town-owned artworks.
This is an unbenefited, part-time program support position that works 10-15 hours per week, Monday- Friday. We anticipate interviews for this position will be held the week of April 13 - 17, 2026. Who we're looking for:

You are able to work in an office setting, remotely from home, and at indoor and outdoor sites in Chapel Hill as the job may require.
You are comfortable using general office computing systems and technologies, including Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe products.

Essential Functions
Assists with installation, coordination, and maintenance of art exhibitions, pieces, programs, and projects. Provides excellent customer service to project artists, partners, contractors, Town staff, and Chapel Hill residents.
Provides clerical and administrative support. Processes artist applications; schedules exhibitions; printing, and installations; creates and installs supplemental exhibition signage and materials; maintains public art records; communicates via email with artists, partners, contractors, and Town Staff.
Conducts public art inspections and maintenance at sites throughout Chapel Hill. Transports materials frequently. Is willing to learn and conduct art maintenance methods using various tools and art supplies.
Performs other tasks as required, including occasional evening, weekend, and holiday shifts at Town partner art event
Minimum Qualifications
Description of Minimum Job Requirements-
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
Formal Education: Bachelor's degree in arts-related field.
Experience: Minimum one year experience withart-related programming or projects, and two years' experience with computer-related office work.
Supervision: Reports to Public Art Coordinator I. This position does not provide direct employee supervision.
Knowledge of: Town policies and procedures. General office computing systems and processes: record management, data entry, image and text file processing, Microsoft Office 365, and Adobeproducts.
Common tools like brushes, screwdrivers, hammers, ladders.
Common art media, tools, and supplies used to create and install murals, sculptures, posters, and two-dimensional artworks that may be hung on walls.
Ability to: Solve problems and make sound decisions; communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and interests; accomplish detail-oriented tasks; handle various types of artworks and tools; and follow multiple projects and deadlines.
Physical Demands: The work is performed sitting, standing, walking, squatting, reaching, bending, on ladders, at outdoor sites, and driving around Chapel Hill. The employee uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. May require lifting 10-25 pounds.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an office environment, in public spaces at Town Hall and Library, and at outdoors art locations along Greenways, downtown murals, bus shelters, and Town parks.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid NC Driver's License, Regular Class C.
Supplemental Information
Individuals employed by the Town of Chapel Hill are not eligible to be commissioned or contracted for art projects or programs administered by Community Arts & Culture during their period of employment. This ensures compliance with Town policies related to contracting and conflicts of interest.
