Job Description
OVERVIEW
AlertMedia helps organizations protect their people, operations, and brand. Its modern Risk Intelligence and Response platform empowers teams to detect emerging threats, assess impact, and respond with confidence. The company is seeking a Senior Technical Revenue Accountant to join its Finance and Accounting team.
Overview
This is a fully remote role, open to candidates in Austin, Texas or other cities in the United States. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will serve as the technical accounting expert for revenue recognition and the primary accounting partner to Sales, Deal Desk, RevOps, Legal, Billing Operations, and Finance. You will own the monthly revenue close process, ASC 606 technical accounting, NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM), deferred revenue accounting, Standalone Selling Price (SSP) methodology, and revenue-related financial reporting. You will also partner closely with Deal Desk and Sales before contracts are finalized, helping structure customer agreements that achieve both commercial objectives and clean, scalable accounting outcomes. Please note that AlertMedia does not currently hire candidates residing in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, or Wyoming. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, and candidates must have existing authorization to work in the United States.
What you will do
- Own the accounting analysis for customer contracts, contract modifications, renewals, expansions, and terminations.
- Research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memoranda supporting revenue recognition conclusions.
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Standalone Selling Price (SSP) methodology.
- Partner with external auditors on all revenue-related technical accounting matters.
- Own the monthly revenue close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Own deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM).
- Perform detailed MRR, ARR, deferred revenue, and revenue trend analysis, and investigate revenue fluctuations to provide meaningful business insights to Finance leadership.
- Partner closely with Deal Desk, Sales, RevOps, and Legal before contracts are finalized, evaluating proposed deal structures and proactively identifying revenue recognition implications.
- Recommend alternative contract structures that support both commercial objectives and compliant, scalable accounting, and help the business understand revenue accounting implications before deals are executed, not after.
- Serve as the primary Accounting contact for revenue-related audit requests, and maintain and enhance revenue accounting policies, documentation, and internal controls.
- Ensure revenue accounting remains compliant as products, pricing, and commercial models evolve.
- Partner closely with Billing Operations and the Financial Systems Manager to ensure revenue accounting is accurate, and identify opportunities to simplify revenue accounting workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Support enhancements to NetSuite ARM and related revenue systems, and use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and other emerging technologies to improve analysis, documentation, and workflows.
What you will bring
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5 or more years of experience in revenue accounting within a SaaS or subscription-based business.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606.
- Experience reviewing customer contracts and interpreting revenue recognition implications.
- Experience owning monthly revenue close responsibilities, including deferred revenue reconciliations.
- Strong analytical and Excel skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to independently research accounting guidance and communicate conclusions clearly.
- A highly organized approach with exceptional attention to detail.
Strongly preferred
- CPA or public accounting experience.
- NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) experience or comparable ERP revenue management experience.
- Experience with subscription and usage-based revenue models.
- Experience partnering with Deal Desk, Sales, RevOps, and Legal.
- Experience with Salesforce, Zone Billing, or similar revenue management platforms.
Benefits
- Competitive base salary plus a company-wide bonus program.
- Generous and flexible time off and parental leave policies.
- Health benefits: medical, dental, vision, and life insurance are 100% paid for employees.
- 401K with a generous company match.
- Rewards and incentives, community service opportunities, and ongoing career development through the Learning and Development team.
- Access to a downtown Austin office with 360 views, a high-tech building gym, and nearby running trails.
